Expertise

A scientific label validated by experts

With the independent expertise of toxicologists, each formula of a product that comes into contact with the skin is assessed using a strict methodology covering:

  • dermascore_expertise_allergenes_2025

    Allergens & Sensitisers

  • dermascore_expertise_irritantes_2025

    Irritating substances

  • dermascore_expertise_cmr_2025

    CMR substances

  • dermascore_expertise_pe_2025

    Endocrine disruptors (SVHC/AGEC)

Result: a clear grade from A+ to C to guide your choices.

Assured confidence

A rigorous and transparent scientific framework

The Derma Score label is based on:

  • A strict methodology

  • A complete assessment of formulas (ingredients, concentrations, pH, exposure)

  • An evaluation aligned with international frameworks: SCCS, REACH, IARC, CIR, NICNAS, NTP

  • Annual controls and updates, including random in-store sampling (10% of products).

The objective: go beyond regulatory requirements to provide consumers with clear, reliable, international information.

Our commitments

Our values and commitments

Derma Score is an independent label, officially registered at the European level.
The validation body ensures that the label operates independently (to avoid conflicts of interest and guarantee impartiality), has an approved set of usage rules, applies transparent and non-discriminatory criteria, maintains effective control processes, and complies with all applicable European regulations.

A rigorous toxicological assessment conducted by independent experts.
Quantitative formulas are reviewed and Margins of Safety (MoS) are calculated.

Comprehensive evaluation of the product’s quantitative formula, taking into account substances of interest such as allergens, sensitisers, irritants, CMRs, and endocrine disruptors.

A clear A+ to C rating based on objective, scientifically validated criteria. An A+ score guarantees that none of the assessed substances exceed the threshold values defined in the reference framework.

Clear, accurate, and reliable information on products that come into contact with the skin.

An annual update of all scores based on the latest scientific developments.
Yearly control checks on labelled products.

An international reference, recognised across all countries and based on the world’s strictest health and safety standards.
Built on international frameworks such as SCCS (Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety), CIR, NICNAS, IARC, REACH, and NTP.
A voluntary initiative, designed to complement existing regulations and enhance transparency.

An international reference based on global scientific frameworks.
Independent toxicologists carry out their evaluations using all relevant international standards, including SCCS, CIR, NICNAS, IARC, REACH, and NTP.

Integrated standards

Standards from our toxicology offices

An international benchmark based on global frameworks. Independent toxicologists take all relevant international standards into account in their assessments. Here are some of our sources.

Methodology

A strict methodology

The aim of the Derma Score label is to provide additional and transparent information on the ingredients found in products intended—or likely—to come into contact with the skin. The assessment is carried out by independent toxicologists based on the complete formula provided by the manufacturer (ingredients and concentrations) and according to a representative use scenario.

The substance categories assessed include:

  • Allergens & Sensitisers
  • Irritating substances
  • Endocrine disruptors (SVHC lists and AGEC law)
  • CMR substances (carcinogenic, mutagenic, reprotoxic)
  • Categories 1A, 1B and 2

The assessment is based on three key parameters:

  • NOAEL (No Observed Adverse Effect Level)
  • SED (Systemic Exposure Dose)
  • MoS (Margin of Safety), calculated as NOAEL / SED

Complete analysis

A comprehensive and independent assessment

Each formula is examined by independent toxicologists using precise quantitative data.
The philosophy of the Derma Score label is inspired by cosmetic regulations: product safety is based on ingredient safety.

Unlike simple label checks, certified companies provide full formulation data to enable a real and transparent toxicological evaluation.

The core principle is clear: “the dose makes the poison.” Each substance is evaluated to identify its effects, define tolerance thresholds, and determine safe exposure levels.

Regular controls

Annual updates and regular checks

The assigned scores are reassessed every year to integrate developments in:

  • Scientific literature
  • Toxicological frameworks
  • Regulatory databases

In parallel, quality checks are carried out to verify the compliance of certified products. Each year:

  • 10% of certified products are randomly sampled
  • Formulas are verified with the companies
  • Technical documents (formulas, SDS, safety reports) are updated when necessary

This approach guarantees the continuous reliability of the label and strengthens its credibility for both consumers and professionals.

Rating and controls

Objective rating, informed choices

The independent Derma Score label, created and registered by Air Label SRL, aims to provide consumers with clear, precise and reliable information on the toxicological characteristics of products in contact with the skin.
It is a voluntary initiative, complementary to existing regulations, designed to reinforce transparency and support informed choices.

Although regulations—particularly European ones—already ensure a high level of safety, the Derma Score label adopts a deliberately more demanding approach:

  • In-depth evaluation of the quantitative formula
  • Integration of the most recent scientific data
  • Application of updated toxicological thresholds

The label positions itself as an international reference, valid in all countries, offering harmonised and easily understandable information.

Derma Score assigns a grade from A+ to C to guide consumers.

This rating does not replace medical advice and does not constitute a therapeutic claim. It does not exempt consumers from consulting a professional.
